Getting Started

The Spanish Language Cohort website has been designed to serve as a resource for Spanish language learners in learning the nuances of Spanish language dialects that are often country-specific.

To begin exploring the site, please start by selecting a country to explore. You may choose the country by clicking either on the map or on the list located on the left of the main page.

After selecting a country, you may:
  • learn about the country by clicking on the Country Information link.
  • listen to their music online by clicking on the Online Radio link.
  • listen to speech samples from native speakers by clicking on the Dialogues thumbnail at the top of the page or by selecting a topic underneath the dialogue heading.
Once at the Dialogues page, you have the option to:
  • listen to the speakers introduce themselves by clicking on their names to the right of the dialogue box.
  • view the transcript of the dialogue by clicking on View Transcript.
  • listen to the dialogue by clicking on Play on Real Player. If you do not have Real Player or it is out-of-date, click here to download it.

After you have listened to the Dialogue, click on the Activities icon to the right of the dialogue box to answer some comprehension questions about the dialogue.

After you have visited every country, you may proceed to the Assessment page to test your knowledge of the dialects of Spanish. The Assessment page is accessed by locating and clicking on the thumbnail at the top of the Spanish cohort homepage.
