Objective: Create an award certificate using Microsoft Word



Introduction: Microsoft Word comes with Word Art, AutoShapes, drawing, and borders/shading options that can be used by educators and coaches to produce a variety of useful, unique documents. For example, these tools can be used to create award certificates for outstanding performance in music, academics, and athletics. Once created, these documents can be printed out in the classroom using most types of standard printers.



Skill Practice: Create an award certificate using

Step 1: Open . Go to File > New, and choose .

Step 2: Select Page Border - Go to Format > Borders and Shading. The Borders and Shading Window will appear. Choose the Page Border tab, and set document options for style, color, width, and art. When finished, click OK. The new page border WILL NOT immediately appear on your document. It WILL appear when using the print preview option.

Step 3: Insert Word Art - Go to Insert > Picture > Word Art. The Word Art Gallery window will appear. Choose the word art style you want to use for your document text. Click OK. The Edit WordArt Window will appear. Edit your text as desired, and then click OK. Your formatted text will appear in your document.

Step 4: Edit inserted Word Art - Left click on your inserted Word Art. "Sizing Handles" around your WordArt, and the Word Art toolbar will appear . Use these tools to adjust size, position, and appearance of your word art. An additional formatting menu will appear if you right click on your word art.

Step 5: Insert AutoShapes - Go to Insert > Picture > AutoShapes. The AutoShapes menu will appear . Left click on the the AutoShape you want to use with your document. Your cursor will now appear as a "+". On your document, click and drag your cursor in the area of your document where you want to add the AutoShape. Release the mouse the button when you have set the desired size for your AutoShape. The selected AutoShape will now appear in your document.

Step 6: Edit AutoShape - Left click on the AutoShape - "sizing handles" appear around the AutoShape . Use the sizing handles to adjust position and size of the AutoShape. Right click on the AutoShape - a formatting menu will appear to edit the AutoShape.

Step 7: Additional editing - Use the Formatting toolbar to edit any standard text you add to your document . To insert clip art from the Clip Art Gallery, go to Insert > Picture > Clip Art and select the desired image.

Step 8: When finished, go to File > Save As, and save your document to a desired file type.
