Create Flow Chart Tutorial
Inspiration
Objective: To Create a Flow Chart
Introduction: Flow charts can be a useful and easy way to depict difficult ideas and/or complicated procedures to students. Inspiration is a software program that allows you to create flow charts, and save them as picture files for use on web pages and handouts.
Skill Practice: Creating a flow chart using Inspiration 6.0
Step 1: Open
. "Click-and-Hold" on the
box. "Drag" it to a desired screen location.
Step 2: Once the Main Idea box is where you want it, you can change it's shape by "clicking" on it, and then clicking on a shape or image from one of the many symbol palettes. Go to View > Symbol Palette to view the symbol palettes. The size of the box can be changed by clicking on it, and dragging on of the sizing handles to the desired dimensions.
Step 3: To add a new box or image, move the cursor to the desired location and click. A "cross" will appear
. Select the new image from one of the symbol palettes. It will appear in place of the "cross"
Step 4: To add text in a new box, "double" click on the box. A white background will appear, along with a cursor
. Add the desired text. You can edit the font type, size, and style by going to Format on the top toolbar and using the available options.
Step 5: Arrow "links" can be added by: 1) clicking on the box that the arrow will start from, 2) "click-and-dragging" on one of the "diamond" shapes that appears with the "sizing handles", and 3) dragging the line to the box you want the arrow to point (or link) to. To edit the "arrow", "click" on the arrow, go to Effect on the top toolbar, and use the available edit options, such as "line thickness", "line pattern", and "line color".
Step 6: "Copy and Paste" work to save time - Click on a finished box or image you want to copy. Sizing handles will appear around the image. Go to Edit > Copy to copy the box or image. Move the cursor to the desired location, and click the mouse button. The
will appear. Go to Edit > Paste. The copied box, or image, will appear in the desired location.
