Objective: To Create Frames for a Web Page



Introduction: Microsoft Word allows users to create framesets for web page (HTML) documents. A frameset is simply an HTML document that tells the browser how to divide the screen into split windows. When you divide a single Web page into sections that can each display separate Web pages, each section is called a frame. Frames are often used in Web sites to make information easier to access, or to show the contents of a Web site that has multiple pages. Educators can use a FTP program to "upload" their finished "frameset" to a server for display on the internet.



Skill Practice: To create a frameset for a Microsoft Word document

Step 1: Open . To create a new document, select .

Step 2: Go to Format > Frames > New Frames Page. A new document will open on screen, along with the "Frames" Toolbar:



Step 3: Use the "Frames" Toolbar options, such as , , , and , to add new frames to your document. Add desired text and graphics to each frame in your frameset. Use the "delete frame" button - - to delete frames from your frameset.

Step 4: To Add a Hyperlink: Click-and-drag your cursor over the text you want to create a hyperlink for. The text will become highlighted. Go to Insert > Hyperlink. The "Insert Hyperlink" window will appear on screen. Use the window options to: a) identify the file or web page to link to, and 2) identify which frame you want the file or web page to appear in, such as



Step 5: Save Document as Web Page - Go to Save As Web Page. If you don't see the "Save As Web Page" option, go to "Save As...". The "Save As" window will appear on screen. Name the document, and specify file type as . The "frameset" will be saved as an entire web page, and each "frame" will be saved as an individual web page.
