Objective: To convert a Microsoft Word document into Adobe PDF



Introduction: If Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 are installed on the same computer, an educator will be able to utilize PDF Maker functionality with Microsoft Word documents. This will allows educators to convert common Word documents into Adobe PDF, a "universal" file format used for document distribution worldwide. Adobe PDF preserves all the fonts, formatting, graphics, and color of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it. Adobe PDF files are compact and can be shared, viewed, navigated, and printed exactly as intended by anyone with free Adobe Acrobat Reader software.



Skill Practice: To convert a Microsoft Word document into Adobe PDF

Step 1: Activate and open an existing document by clicking on File > Open, or create a new document by clicking on File > New and selecting .

Step 2: Add desired text and graphics to the document. Save the document by clicking on File > Save As... - the "Save As" window will appear on screen. Use the window options to "Name" the file, and "Save" the file to a specific file type.

Step 3: Convert your Microsoft Word document to Adobe PDF by using the "PDFmaker 5.0" toolbar - . Click on the "Convert to Adobe PDF" icon - - The "Save PDF File As" window will appear on screen.



Use the window options to "Name" and "Save" your new Adobe PDF document to a desired location on your computer. Click on "Save" when finished.


Step 4: Your new Adobe PDF document will be created, and will be saved to the location you specified. Your original Microsoft Word document will remain unchanged and intact.

Step 5: Use the "Convert to Adobe PDF and Email" icon - - to complete both functions at the same time.
