Objective: Filter a photograph using Adobe Photoshop
Introduction: Adobe Photoshop provides educators with a multitude of filter options to use with photographs. The filter options can be used to dramatically change the appearance and visual effects of the photos, which educators can use on a webpage or handout.
Skill Practice: To filter a photograph using Adobe Photoshop
Step 1: Open
. Go to File > Open. The "Open" window will appear on screen.
Use the window options to "locate" and "open" an existing photo file - such as
The opened photo file should now appear on screen.
Step 2: Go to Filter on the top menu bar - a "drop-down" menu will appear on screen, providing many filtering options to choose from. Browse the filtering options for one you would like to use with your photograph.
Step 3: Test out a filtering option, such as Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap.
If you don't like the filtering effect, go to Edit > Undo Plastic Wrap to remove the filtering effect.
Step 4: To save the filtered photo as a New file, go to File > Save As - the "Save As" window will appear on screen. Use the options to "Name" and "Save" the new file.
Step 5: To save the filtered effects to the original photo, go to File > Save. The filter effects will be saved to the original photograph.
